I read that as 'Obama' for a second and was like, wait, what?Compare that to Osama's crappy home video filmed in a cave.

There's a lot of aesthetic appeal to military design in general. The vehicles. Playing Top Trumps as a kid loving all the crazy aircraft designs.
bartys guna cry when he reads this cos he wrote a whole book about the revolutionary, paradgim shifty music of the 2010s
barty reads dissensus obsessively and pretends he doesnt but then he'll accidentally reference some current thread. i never mention it. i choose to tactfully preserve the fiction.
i would
i dont remember the 10s very well. i remember london felt great during the olympics. then my dad died, mark killed his mum, the other mark done a suicide, leicester won the premier league, brexit, trump, corona, total reality collapse. probably cos of all the dmt i did.
My old man's pov is shit died around the millennium and double died around 2010.
This is brilliantly put - dying is one thing but double-dying is taking the piss.
a minor thing comparatively but uk tv comedy ran out of steam in the 2010s. partly the natural ebb and flow of things, there's not always a good crop etc, and the terrain they were working with got much more complicated, it became unclear who exactly it was acceptable to punch at, who was allowed to do the punching, and exactly how those punches could be thrown. everyone seemed to pull back a bit. part of the 2010s structure of feeling in the UK was for sure a destabilisation of or more accurately a sharp pulling back of what you could joke about. totally separately, and unprovably, people got less funny as they spent more time on the internet and less time bored together. The failure of the UK in the 2010s is demonstrated by the fact that stand up comedians with names like Sean and Russell became the unaknowledged legislators of the age.
