While out in the Apt. complex past 4 AM one night last week- looking for the cat i assumed was lost after seeing it run by our Apt. front - in middle distance i could hear ... Pop Smoke Dior Dior .
And it was good.

Just discovered this album, and totally agree. The other thing that stands out about it is its unashamed optimism, which feels even more poignant because of the dated quality you mention. All those good intentions, all so long ago. It will be alright is a constant refrain in one of the songs. I wonder if it was in the end?

Just finished watching "Tokyo Vice", the new series with some Michael Mann involvement. Really liked it. Kind of hokey almost old-fashioned story and certainly nothing too new in that department, but great shots of Tokyo at night.



It's also this weird thing where it's a period piece but it's the recent past (late 90s), so something recognisable. Sort of like Uncut Gems in that respect.

And a few tunes which have that late night city / hypnagogic feeling... In that I don't much like them, but somehow, cos they are now artifacts from the past, they do a good job of conjuring a certain feeling.







This one in particular...



I was in Chicago for a bit in 1999 and my cousin who i was staying with was obsessed with this song. And it was played everywhere on radio. I associate it with eraserhead, cos i finally managed to watch it on that holiday.

Turquoise and purple trackies are having a moment, like a Harmony K film just with bad hair I mean self cut or just overtly twiddled with i dunno, skinhead mullet a la Die Antwoord/dreads/mulletperms, all bad

Blasted Richard Kirk and they kept their distance, late night city aesthetic gateway to the North style
