I'm approaching the end of The Invisibles now (i'm on the 6th book), and although i am finding it absolutely brilliant, i'm finding it hard to forgive King Mob his love of Kula Shaker - anyone else have this problem?
how about a bit of [/IMG]
and the intricacies of all these, what i think of as, "mainstream" series like Captain America or whatever
I'm about 600km from Berlin, other side of the country (Cologne/Bonn area), so no, didn't get it there. Cool your young friend is into this, as a child I always found franco-belgian comics much more beautiful than american superheroes (although I read these too, of course).
And if your girlfriend's english is half decent, give her the american versions, I haven't read these in german but english usually doesn't translate very good to german in comics since german often takes more space.
To commemorate its 100th anniversary, the editors of Tozai Shimbun newspaper want to plan to publish the "Ultimate Menu." Journalist Yamaoka Shiro is sent to find these amazing dishes, and with the help of his female co-worker Kurita Yuko, Yamaoka will scour Japan to find dishes that are worthy of legendary status.
Oishinbo (also known as The Gourmet in other translations) is one of the longest-running manga ever published in Japan. Since its debut in 1983 in the pages of seinen manga magazine Big Comic Spirits, Oishinbo has been collected in over 102 volumes.
Rather than attempt to publish all 102 volumes of this culinary comic, VIZ Media is publishing an "a la carte" menu of Oishinbo stories, with volumes focusing on various aspects of Japanese cuisine. The theme of the first volume is Nihon ryori, or traditional Japanese cuisine, and it features stories about the preparing perfect dashi (traditional broth made with seaweed and /or fish that provides the foundation of flavor for many dishes), matcha (powdered green tea used in tea ceremonies) and sashimi (sliced raw fish). Other mouth-watering volumes will cover the delicious details about sake, fish, vegetables, rice, noodles and izakaya, or pub food.
Wow! Vol.1 of this just came out. Unfortunately its a selection of stories and not the 100 volume plus serialisation, but its still fantastic! Probably the best cooking manga Ive ever read (though Im still waiting on Shota No Sushi).

Droid, i've been meaning to thank you for your Walking Man recommendation- it's got me interested in comics/manga again for the first time in years.
