yeh he's heavy that guy, thanks. but i was talking about the 2 steppy one, is that what you mean?

did you enjoy the night?

hmm its a really sloppy track with lots of weird spiralling noises?

yeah loved it even though i was severely tired, loved benny's very good dub set and kode's set, martyn was great, but maybe a bit too studious and a little bit samey but loved it whe he dropped gabrielle by roy davis jnr - love that, also good to hear riot in lagos in a set.
it was a very refeshing evening, very good to hear that things seem to be turning a corner in dubstep into more interesting areas.

Didnt see you Marcus, damn. Martyn killed it though! Kode was wonderfully wonky too.

i was hiding :)
i did like martyn but maybe by then i'd just lost all energy, i did think it was a wee bit samey, is he the first non englisher to play at fwd?

Boomnoise brought this up and I thought Dinesh/Goldspot may have played in the early days. Soulja seems to think he did.

im not sure i've understood what you're saying, but the one im talking about was pretty tight i think, but did have loads of spiraling gated electro arpeggios and such. i know the hudson mohawk tune that he dropped, that was sick

i can see what you're saying maybe on Martyn, i loved the set but it didn't blow me away, i guess it more took me away if that makes sense. i guess cos he was covering so much ground that im pretty strongly accustomed with. i think Kode9's was the one for me that night, some of that stuff was madness. but again, fatigue needs to be calculated in!

unfortunately i don't think he played the one you're talking about Ben, but you can relive his incredible remix of Reminiscing, that 2562 version of patty blingh.. and actually he plays a tune that could be the one you're talking about - it's not two step but it's incredibly euphoric, synthy and hands in the air-ish..

hmm might be ikonkia?

lots of crazy d and mcs in general hating on that thread which seems to be a bit weird to me..
having a toaster is pretty much standard isn't it?

yeah I was a bit surprised at that... it does tend to be the dnb crew that don't like crazy though, I've noticed that a bit.

it's definitely not the ikonika tune, we know and love that one :) becoming a bit of a surprise anthem isn't it? and sounded monstrous off the TP at fwd as well

yeh i've been caning that Kiss set, so good! so many good tunes, that Mala one is sick. sadly no appearance of the one i'm talking about though.

Please is such an amazing track, it sounded phenomenal on Friday. Broken Hearts Remix keeps growing and growing too, initially it didnt get me so much but the more i listen the more i love it

The Konspirator
forthcoming DuttyArtz 12" is quite nice. New one from barcelona's Cauto and a Shadetek refix which almost blew a speaker.

LowMotion001. Secret agent gel and warrior Queen taking slack to a whole new level..brilliant.

My 12" on immerse with the horsepower refix has been pushed back a week. Transmission now for 2/11.

And if the man is dropping "At Les" at the end of dubstep sets, Martyn cannot ever be fucked with.

on repeated listen it might be that one after Den of Drumz, i don't think so (i remember it being more rhythmically driven, more 2steppy, and with less dominant synths), but maybe

that track the first one is by this guy

He is from glasgow tho

Downloaded his redbull mix but theres not an awful lot on it - to my ears - that matches the track 9 has been playing. Alot of this Dilla inspired stuff seems to get really hectic in a way i don't find that appealing, the tunes with rythmic space are fantastic though.

Is there anything anyone would recommend checking on a similar tip?

*******

Please is a great track - the colours in it are so vivid - though i find the drums and sub quite rigid. I would love it even more if someone could do a remix with a more relaxed undercarriage.. :)

i dunno how much you know of this stuff, presumably Flying Lotus you do, then maybe Rustie and Samiyam? i know very little myself.

i really like the lurching rigidity of Please, its a really angular groove, which im happy to hear when so much dubstep (especially in this area) is going towards a more rolling template. but as you say the synths could also be amazing with a more rushing rolling rhythm

I completely agree.. it was interesting and kind of a relief hearing a new ghostface tune next to a lot of the really wonked stuff kode was playing in the first half hour of his set. The groove often suffers when it's so laboured..

i dunno, i think there's definitely something to be said for it, i really enjoy the messy thickness and density of the grooves on a fair bit of those things, it brings me a really different feeling, a much more overwhelming and mind-bending one at that. and especially in the context of warming up a set i think its amazing because when he moved up into crisp banging dancefloor material the contrast gives such a massive lift to the energy

sidebar question: anyone have a rough idea how many dubstep releases there have been in the last year? 3 years ago it was maybe 1-3 a month, depending. some months now it's got to be in the dozens, no? just curious because i haven't been keeping track at all.
