its tooo much

musical amphetamine. wil and diz sounding so good, and so fast, and so clear.

it's really pretty poignant, listening to this, thinking about where they both are now, about 'in the summer' and 'dance wiv me', thinking about about how these sets, when they're at their best are clearly - to anyone with EARS, they MUST BE - better than any single grime cd, bar maybe bidc.

having read that sad (and flawed) piece in guardian film&music today about uk black music and the british music business...

damn :(

The point is though, is that this sort of energy and overall vibe isn't something that can or could be duplicated into a commercial structure unfortunately.
Not to reference the whole article (which I felt was as on-point regarding British black music as the Guardian's probably going to get), but certainly with reference to grime, these recordings are certainly going to be better than most singles/albums etc to come from the scene because this when they were most impassioned and uninhibited. You get to a label and 25 people think you should be "this" or even in studio where you've got retakes and so forth. This is better because it's real. One take, you're done, bang. And you can sense that.

Touched on this with the interview with Highrise I think (not that I remember much); you'll never get this back. Ever.

i thought that article was pretty on point for the most part. not as flawed or silly as that other one from a year or so ago that was in the saturday guardian magazine - more balanced and fair.

would have liked it to maybe reiterate the fact that trying to make crappy blatant crossover tracks just cos there isnt enough underground support in place isnt the best idea either lol, or that with music in general in a bit of a strange place w/r/t downloading/falling sales/less money etc, black music artists def arent going to be much better off, but all in all, it was a good read.

but it would be nice to actually have maybe a bit more coverage on less commercial black music artists in a paper like the guardian from time to time. considering they feature quite a lot of rock artists who arent at the top of the charts, i dont know why they only feature black artists who are commercially succesful.

agreed about grime sets vs recorded output. im not as biased in favour of the former as i used to be, but yeah, its still obvious thats always been where its at, despite some good mix cds like freedom of speech and dozens of great grime records. shame about the direction dizzee and wiley are going in (although i still like rolex a lot) but probably inevitable really. at least we have sets like this to remember them by ; )

90 minutes of spitting, made me skank in the car at half 2 this morning when I probably shouldn't have been on the road really. We didn't stop driving till the set stopped though. My wallet's going to regret that probably.
God's Gift's a bit weird on this one, something I can't quite place. I'd never heard the Slimzee dubplate of "Ho" before either, the beginning's mad.
Just lol @ 31mins as well.

It's hard writing descriptions of sets you know. Just wish I'd started at the beginning because there's so many to do now.

oh, yeah, Track IDs at 46 & 65 minutes. Those ones I know I should know but don't, safe.

Slimthing on deck; Mighty Mo, Preshus & Forcer on mic. It's a bit weird this set but I enjoyed it. Bit mellow. Garage as opposed to grime, obviously.
You can tell it's old because they go over "I Like To Move It" without any indication of irony.

Track ID, that vocal at 7:30?

Today I've got Nasty Crew from 1999, Hype Squad (including a studio set with a very early airing of the WMR riff, like 2001 early; man did a double take), a Logan set with Wiley, Trim & God's Gift and possibly some other stuff if I get time.

Unknown Date; Dizzee & Wiley

Basically right around the time Ruff Sqwad's Tingz In Boots started coming through. This is a brilliant set, actually. Can't recommend it highly enough. It's a Deja Set and they end up on Jungle in the middle for fuck's sake.
They drop into some American rap near the end but don't kid yourself that this is the end of it because it isn't.

Now officially the clearest and longest Wiley B2B Dizzee set on the site. In internet existence?

So sick. Pretty near the perfect Grime set. I have never heard that remix of the Big Mic Man beat (or is it called Bun Dat?) at 46 minutes. Dizzee sounds so clear on this, I rekon this is pretty near his peak. The I Luv U remix with Sharkey Major is also amazing.

PAUG Special today, sort of

PAUG Vs Heartless, the on-stage clash, now a full tape rip. There's a quick More Fire crew PA sandwiched in between the clash and Heartless performing at the end as well

PAUG, 11/03/01; Geeneus on deck with Wiley, Major Ace & Plague

DND's Got Myself Together really is a fuckin tune man. This set's effectively 80 minutes of spitting bar one or two vocals. Big set.

Beast of Burden
Hey, I won't get too involved in this thread as I don't listen to this music much, but I did, for whatever reason, just listen to this. It's the most vicious thing I've ever heard! What exactly did this Fury woman do to deserve such destruction?
