There's no evidence that Israel is attempting to maximise civilian deaths. Bear in mind our most fact-laden audience member Padraig does not class Israeli action as genocidal yet. October 7 involved the highest number of dead civilians per available civilians, by far.

You may not have heard but Hamas' entire thing is to hide: hide under streets, hide in hospitals, hide behind random people in the street. It's Hamas' cowardly tactics and refusal to surrender that leads to a large proportion of these civilian deaths.

People here have very short memories of the evacuation opportunities afforded before Israel's retaliation, the humanitarian corridors, the return of captured Palestinians who are judged not to be Hamas. Israelis are far from angels but I find it odd that people feel it necessary to turn them into embodiments of pure evil in order to feel justified in criticising them...they prefer a goodies vs baddies children's story to the adult reality in its complexity and nuance.
