Ah yes, the old "Anyone who disagrees with me has been brainwashed by Them" ace in the hole.
They definitely told you to say this.

still sounds like a better political worldview than the ones who are in power nowWell for a lot of reasons. Two of the most prominent being his absolute tin ear and inability to read a room, and his political worldview, which he hasn't updated since the 1970s and can be summarised as "West bad."
Very clearly better by light years and universesstill sounds like a better political worldview than the ones who are in power now
There's certainly an element of that, but plenty of the criticism he got was justified as well. You're forgetting the establishment closing ranks and a press overwhelmingly hostile to anything to the left of whatever you want to call what we've been doing since '79.
See, I knew getting into this conversation with you was a complete waste of time.still sounds like a better political worldview than the ones who are in power now

Take the antisemitism thing, for example. Close to 9 in 10 British Jews considered him antisemitic, despite historically being a fairly strongly Labour-voting constituency. Those taking the "it was a scam" stance are left to explain that, and can't really do so without appealing to the idea that nearly all Jews are involved in a sinister conspiracy (as antisemites gave alleged for centuries).
Whereas it's hard to imagine white leftists defending a politician that 9 in 10 black people considered a white supremacist, no matter how much they liked what he had to say about trains or the NHS.
The current US leadership is also on the West Bad side, and we'll see how that turns out.
i think you're not necesarily an antisemite if you say you're friends with hamas, just as you actually can be an antisemite if you say you're friends with israel
yea totally. it's just that with him, i actaully do believe he is not an antisemite. in contrast with some folks on the right who claim to fight antisemitism and are staunch supporters of israel but deep down are in fact actual antisemites, take all those american christian evangelists for example. You can see why it didn't look great for him to have said it though, right? Same goes for McDonnell and the IRA.
Well that's the thing - a lot of his comments constituted a self-indictment just as they were, without having to be manipulated or misquoted by hostile media. Of course the hostile media made a big deal out of it, but it's not like they had nothing to work on.Agreed, but I think you also have to take into account the kind of rhetorical strategies we've seen deployed re: antisemitism in the wake of October 7th and the fact the press/establishment were desperately probing for something to get him with then went into overdrive when they locked onto it. How many people felt he was antisemitic because of things they heard from him directly and how many felt he was because they were repeatedly told he was by the media and his political opponents? Obviously he didn't help himself with things like the comment about Hamas being his friends, but I find it difficult to ignore the hostility of the campaign against him.
I think the vast majority of Jews would disagree with that, and it's not really a great look to be making those kinds of pronouncements if you're not Jewish.i think you're not necesarily an antisemite if you say you're friends with hamas, just as you actually can be an antisemite if you say you're friends with israel
Yeah they're always talking about how the UK/France/Germany have been taken over by muslamic rape gangs and lost their identities.I don't think they are, not entirely anyway. They don't like the EU or NATO, but they're always banging on about Christian values and defending their country and heritage from threats from the East. The primary point of contention seems to be whether Russia's a geopolitical foe or a cultural ally.
