The Independent are trying to blame Corbyn for Labour supporting the Israeli government's actions until now. According to them, Starmer and co. were held back by a sense of shame over him.

THe term antisemetic should be banned at this point
I don’t endorse the banning of any words.
I do think I get your meaning though.
Over here, labels like Liberal, Conservative, Socialist, Libaterisn have been rendered meaningless by misuse and ignorance.
It’s an unavoidable by-product of having a two party duopoly in a country of 330 million people. Which is probably a key reason the non-voters out number the Dems or GOP.

i wonder if the two party thing has an inevitability to it in terms of each side trying to form the largest coalition possible
Do you mean in America? If so, clearly.
Case in point: when the Green Party was just starting to get enough traction through grass roots sweat equity and fending off numerous challenges legally by the Dem party to assure a ballot line in enough states to at least pressure the DNC to move an inch to the left, they (The DNC) created and funded the creation of the Working Families Party.
This left of center-right party was aggressively
Pushing voter registration drives on college campuses. If you saw their employees, you might naturally presume them idealistic young lefties (they looked the part) almost none though were the least bit idealistic.
I learned from them through personal conversations they were all in paid positions.

i mean everywhere in the universe. a universal law of 2.
Oh, okay. Although I’ve spent a decent amount of time, maybe a lot by American standards over seas. I was of the impression that the parliamentary system was more equitable. Just by looking at the percentage of seats held by 3rd & 4th parties. Not to say they wouldn’t coalesce with the big 2 on a lot of issues but from my pov the chances of concrete changes for the better (ex NHS) in general, was perhaps a better system.

I vaguely remember just after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, someone in US government describing a conversation they had with a former Soviet official.
He said that when he asked how it all went to shit so relatively fast, He reported the SO saying something like we should have used your (the U.S.) model of having ostensibly a two party system, while maintaining the status quo behind the scenes.
