This is interesting albeit slightly disappointing

Incidentally, a plethora of media outlets (inc. The Independent, BBC, New Statesman, LBC, Sky and The Guardian) have quoted Truss as blaming the “leftwing economic establishment”, which is how the Sunday Telegraph headlined its accompanying story but is not what Truss actually said.

It was actually quite plausible that she would say that cos every day I see people claiming that the country is in the grip of a leftist stranglehold - despite the fact that the Tories have been in power for more than a decade and the right control the media, the courts, the city etc - and so if she had made that obviously insane claim it would have resonated with a certain section of the right

And if it's not cabals of scheming lefties, then it's cabals of scheming Remoaners - like that piece in the Telegraph a few months back, complaining that Brexit (which, no doubt, would otherwise have unleashed the UK's true potential and led to an unprecedented economic and cultural renaissance) had been derailed by an anti-Brexit 'elite'... written by a member of the House of Lords.

I fucking hope this actually happens now.
And also, one might ask what is the point of the Tories hanging on for the next couple of years desperately trying to find some kind of magic bullet that will put right twelve years of failure? Well, we know the answer, their entire raison d'etre is to stay in power - one of the few bits of honesty in Truss's Telegraph essay the other day was when she spoke of the desperate need to bring about financial change and the urgency with which it was required due to the election cycle, openly stating that her main ain was to win the election rather than to help the citizens and making it clear that the timing of actions would be made with that in mind.

So with them almost certain to lose the election, they must delay it as long as possible cos that is the only way for them to extend their stay in power, squeeze the last drops of blood from the economy and generally do as much damage as possible before they finally scuttle off back to their lairs.

Home Office figures say “illegal” immigration costs the UK just under £1.3 billion PA
Tax evasion - £34bn PA
Brexit divorce bill - 42bn
Track & trace - 37bn
Covid fraud - 15bn
Price of Truss’s madness 40-50bn
Sunak failing to submit paperwork in time - 12bn
Total - 200bn.

154 years of “illegal” immigration will still cost less than 3 years of conservative government.

Yet more figures telling us what we already know, just brings it home how clever Tories are at getting people riled up about insignificant sums of money that go to the wrong kinds of people while they themselves steal, waste or lose many multiples of that without anyone batting an eyelid.

Should I add allegedly after that to falsely pretend I think that there is a slight element of doubt as to the veracity of the accusations?
