How much of that state culture could be preserved, if Texas were to become increasingly liberal?

Yeah nothing like that in CA, as far as I know.

I mean, if texas becomes more and more liberal, would it just begin to culturally blend in with coastal states? Or could a Texan culture withstand such a shift?

even lefty kids have an affected Texan pride. cowboys are non ideological. but most geographic culture is superficial at this point right? most places are like everywhere else.

Yeah I guess a lot of it, geographical based culture, boils down to aesthetics. And aesthetics are liable to be appropriated by different ideologies, in principle, no? Or even hoarded by the dominant ideology.

yah. the only non aesthetic cultural difference I noticed in Cali, though I didn't really have a social life and was only there for two months, is that you guys are the worst drivers in the country by far. its not even close.

made a great Austin to marfa drive about 15 years ago, circled back down along the border through big bend, stayed in marathon, back to Austin. lots of people were refreshingly not hardcore GOP conservative, many on this side of the Rio Grande were sympathetic to immigrants.

Perhaps all ideologies tend to dominate, as in a contagion, but not all secure the infrastructure to do so, no?

But the kind of dominance I have in mind could perhaps be figured as sheer influence. Like some categorical ideologies influence individual values more than others do.

edit: infrastructure, platform, etc.

I could just have a suboptimal usage of "ideology". I just mean any discernible -ism at play, in terms of influencing how people navigate their worlds.

Stan is a rare orchid who has had a totalising vision of the world, vouchsafed by an Angel, as an interlocking structure of parts geared towards an The Inevitable Moral Ending. history as a unified process in which higher order mechanisms enfold and capture lower order ones, and mesh the individual with the group, and group with the Everything, in its march towards dematerialisation and ultimate cosmic unity.

It's easy to get frustrated with him for various reasons, but he's very young, and as I say, a rare specimen that should be provided the conditions needed to flourish. A little of Marxism to mitigate some of his naïveté but but don't bury him under it.

Dow up 700 points in the first 90 minutes of trading. you'd imagine it would be down dramatically if they thought things were going to be in turmoil, since markets hates uncertainty.
