Ah maybe you're right. But then didn't at least one Republican announce that they were becoming an independent yesterday? Although that was prior to a forthcoming retirement so I dunno what that means...

the senate would be split if the Dems win both Georgia races, but the VP (Kamala Harris) presides over the Senate and would cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie.

things won't change dramatically because most legislation requires 60 votes to pass. that changes if they decide to do away with that rule, tho.

some matters require just a simple majority (50+1), like Supreme Court confirmations.

But didn't one change from GOP to Independent yesterday? Or was that from the other house?

he's in the house of representatives, not senate. and that's largely a symbolic act. he's conservative, voted for trump and supported his policies, and I'm sure will continue to vote that way until he leaves office in January.

bernie sanders and Angus King (awesome name) are the only independents in the senate, and they both caucus with the Dems and pretty much always vote with them.

Odds I've seen suggest the Republican candidates are likely to win, but it's far from a dead cert.

yeah, going to be really difficult for the Dems to win one, never mind both races. however, this in today's NY Times is encouraging
