i guess the real spirit of the culture mafia so far as i can tell is online. going round the chelsea galleries is great if you have any interest in that kind of thing, you can head for the several gagosians, pace, dia, david zwirner and microscope, and then pop into whatever else looks good through the window. the galleries in tribeca are probably a bit more zeitgeisty, but harder to navigate. anthology film archives isn't exactly BCM, it feels more like a holdover from a previous wave of nyc intellegencia, but it's still in the right ballpark. metrograph (a cinema) in in dimes square and is pure BCM. you could also go and eat in Dimes restaurant itself, or kikis, both very BCM and neither are particularly expensive, hard to get into or difficult in any way
the stone is good if you like the stuff that's covered in wire. roulette and issue project room likewise. for clubs, nowadays is cool and it's a good place to see the kind of club that i think could only exist in brooklyn, public records fits into that category too, they both have this combination of being....i don't know. they're brooklyn fashionable, that's the best way i can explain it. killer soundsystems as well. maria hernandez park is near you and is the locus of the bushwick thing.

Yeah fortunately it is a lot of fun, working with these tech nonprofits, but I still don’t really have a good sense of how to set up a consulting service.

Nearby Mercury Lounge is the Double Down Saloon, famous for their signature “Ass Juice” cocktail. One may enjoy it while watching hardcore pornography on the televisions behind the bar.

I thought Arnold Palmer was a non-alcoholic cocktail though... surely you can't have a drink called Anal Leakage that is non-alcoholic.

Yeah that’s part of why I found it so strange: it kinda tasted like iced tea + lemonade. I presume there is an awkward/sloppy mix of several hard liquors, maybe like a Long Island Iced Tea (which I still haven’t tried)
