Life is about choices, you can move up in the world and spend time with well educated, ambitious go getters trading zings about Whole Foods salad bar or stay in the back of the class with the lads
the dream of northern california is of a place where the lads from the back of the class run the show, seize the institutions. of course elon musk has a billion dollars, of course he’s at a party listening to house music and taking drugs. how else could it be?

you lot should try it out, take over a couple quangos or something.

I like James Ellroy. Some Iain Sinclair.
Was gonna suggest Ellroy... in his own way at least. M John Harrison also at times, certainly he's certainly someone whose writing really stuck out to me, while at the same time I was not especially enjoying the books themselves.

Rimbaud was a poet. Miller wrote badly. Burroughs is a great writer but not so much as a prose stylist.

Buroughs - like Ellroy - kindai created his own style and did it well. I'm not sue it's exactly good prose though. That's not the right word for it I mean.

I like Hunter Thompson's prose, although I tried to reread Kingdom of Fear recently and it was awful. Chalked it up to being very late Thompson though and assumed I'd still rate Hell's Angels, Vegas and Campaign Trail.
