Ach!

Turd on the Run
I've posted these before, but still haven't found any info about them. Two of my favourite bangers from earlier this year.

Interesting. This may be a question that's already cropped up - but do you have any recommendations for (ex) broken-beat artists making funky/funky-like house tunes at the mo, other than Aphrodisiax and Altered Natives? .

Ear dis (Arms and Spoonface).

They've done some great tunes. Hey Girl, I Feel, Arms remix of Tawiah's 'every step'.

if marcus nasty started playing them would they then become funky in the traditional sense?

One of the things i'm always really keen to emphasise is that I don't think there is a single litmus test for what makes a tune "funky"; talking about what would make a tune "funky in the traditional sense" is difficult because it's more like a series of interconnected factors at the level of production, sound and reception.

Probably an even better example is Suges' "We Belong To The Night" - a Canadian deep house track that crossed over massively into the funky scene even before Donae'o stole it for "Party Hard".

This definitional vagueness makes things like the idea of "funkstep" more consequential (for good or for worse) rather than less - because so much of the feel of funky is determined by context.

A tune like D-Malice's "Unneccessary" sounds totally different when it appears in the Mak 10/Shantie MC March 2008 set as compared to its appearance in Scratcha's September Funkstep set - in the former context it sounds appealingly rough and energetic and uncompromising; in the latter its abstraction and sense of reserve really comes to the fore.

(to be fair there's no way the Scratcha set can compete with the greatest 2 hours of recorded music ever, on any level pretty much)

But yeah, definitional contexts change how tunes sound, what they mean...

Did anybody ever get a track list together for this set? So much great stuff on there that I can't name.

Edit: any ID on that track from the Cooly G TV preview mentioned upthread?
